Can I get life insurance with no SSN?

Written by Immigrant Life Insurance

“Can I buy life insurance without a Social Security number” and “can I get life insurance without an SSN” are questions we often get asked. Immigrants have a profoundly positive impact on our nation’s productivity. The ethnic makeup of the United States has changed drastically over the last 10 to 20 years.

Immigrants are a welcomed and valued part of our society. There are, however, millions of immigrants living in our country without an official Social Security number (SSN). An SSN is the most common form of identification used to verify your identity and citizenship status for employment, banking, school admittance, and other social and financial support programs.

Because of our current and past government policies, relatively insecure border, and the desire for many people to cross the border into the United States for a better life, many immigrants are living in the United States illegally, undocumented, or with some citizenship status.

Yes, you can. A life insurance policy is a contract between a private business (an insurance company) and a private individual. The government is not involved in private life insurance transactions. If you can find a company that looks favorably on your citizenship status, you can get life insurance without a SSN.

You must have an ITIN number. If you are in the United States without an ITIN number or SSN, we cannot help you. If you are interested in getting on our mailing list for when we find an insurer who will offer insurance to non-ITIN holders, just call us.

What kind of life insurance policy can I get?

We only work with insurance companies that provide life insurance for undocumented immigrants, and those without legal citizenship status. Most often, these are “term” life insurance policies. Term life insurance policies last for a specified number of years such as 15 or 20 years.

Typical term periods for this insurance are 15-year life insurance and 20-year life insurance. Which length of time you select will depend on your age, your financial needs and objectives.

How much insurance for non-US residents can I get?

The easiest plans to qualify for are “no medical exam” policies. This means you do not have to submit to a blood test, urine test, or extensive medical records review.

These plans are available for up to $250,000 of life insurance death benefit coverage. If you need more coverage, we can help you get another policy with another life insurance company.

What are the underwriting requirements?

What is underwriting? Underwriting is a process the insurance company uses to confirm your age and medical history before offering you life insurance. For ease of issue and acceptance, we recommend no medical exam life insurance policies.

With no medical exam life insurance life insurance for ITIN and SSN clients, there are a few health questions to qualify.

What other features do these life insurance policies offer?

Some life insurance plans offer “riders” (a free or paid add-on to the policy) that will double your death benefit if your death results from an accident. If you had a $100,000 life insurance policy and you died in an auto accident, your life insurance policy would pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries.
